Renal Trauma Classification

Minor Renal Trauma (85%)


Grade I:

• Renal Contusion
• Sub capsular hematoma

Grade II:

• Ruptures/ tears of the renal capsule and parenchyma <1 cm
• Perirenal hematoma

Mayor Renal Trauma (15%)

Grade III:

• Parenchymal laceration > 1 cm into the cortex
• No urinary extravasation

Grade IV:

• Parenchymal laceration --> extend into the collecting system
• Urinary extravasation
• Laceration a segmental vessel

Grade V:

• Thrombosis of the main renal artery
• Multiple renal laceration --> Shattered kidney
• Avulsion of the main renal vessel
